79-year-old Man Sentenced in Shooting Death of Wife
COSTA MESA — An elderly Costa Mesa man has been sentenced to 6-years in prison in the shooting death of his ailing wife in 2009.
She was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she died 3 weeks later of her injuries.
Her husband, Kenneth, was arrested outside their home in the 2000 block of Orange Avenue shortly after the shooting.
On Friday he pleaded guilty to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter.
Doris Leake suffered from a number of health issues at the time of her death, according to prosecutors.
The couple was married for more than 50 years.
