Suspects Sought in Deadly Watts Shooting – Jennifer Gould Reports
WATTS, Calif. (KTLA) — Police are searching for two suspects in a shooting in Watts Sunday night that left a man dead and his wife wounded.
It happened just after 11 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 9700 block of Beach Street.
A husband and wife, both said to be in their 50s, were inside their home when they heard their car alarm going off, police said.
The husband went outside to investigate, and he was confronted by the suspects.
“He went outside to the noise that he heard and he was confronted by a suspect,” said LAPD Commanding Ofc. Tom McMullen.
“Our victim intended to run back inside the house, at which time the suspect chased him and shots were fired and he was struck,” he said.
The husband was struck two times in the upper torso. The wife was shot once in the elbow and also suffered a graze wound to her abdomen.
Both victims were transported to the hospital, where the husband died. The wife was said to be in stable condition.
Both suspects remain outstanding. It wasn’t known what direction they fled in, or if they left on foot or in a vehicle.
Investigators said they do not believe the couple was involved in any illicit activity.
They would not comment on reports that the suspects may have known the victims, and that the car alarm may have been a ruse to lure the man outside.
The suspects are facing charges of felony murder and attempted murder. Anyone with information is asked to call the LAPD’s Southeast Division.
