Marches Planned for Immigration Day of Action – Lynette Romero Reports
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A coalition of immigrants’ rights groups are coming together for what they’re terming a “National Day of Action,” calling on elected officials to fix our immigration system.
Marches, prayer vigils and meetings are planned. Organizers are asking congress to reform an immigration system that they say is broken.
Local marches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Van Nuys Civic Center.
There will be rallies outside Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office in West L.A. and Congressman Brad Sherman’s office in Sherman Oaks.
There is optimism over an immigration reform bill circulating right now in the U.S. Senate.
Negotiators say the biggest obstacle currently is how many visas to issue to foreign farmworkers, and how much to pay them.
That’s a crucial issue in California, where the state’s vast agricultural industry employs more labor than any other state.
