mayor-white-powderLOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) — A portion of City Hall was evacuated Thursday after a suspicious letter was reported at the mayor’s office.

An employee in the mayor’s office called police after opening a letter containing an unknown white powder.

A section of the 3rd floor offices were evacuated as a precaution.

Preliminary reports indicate the white powder is benign, according to LAPD Commander Blake Chow.

Turns out, the substance was harmless chalk.

The envelope also included a “threatening letter” addressed to Villaraigosa, Chow told the L.A. Times.

He said it appears the envelope may have been sent from a correctional facility out of state.
