CORONA, Calif. (KTLA) — A manhunt is underway in Riverside County for a man police believe murdered the mother of his girlfriend.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home on the 700 block of S. Merrill Street in Corona.

Police say 28-year-old Carlos Martin Quezada beat up his girlfriend, 28-year-old Crystal Lopez.

She then went to pick up her children from school, and Quezada returned to the home.

Police say that’s when he encountered Lopez’s mother, 55-year-old Katherine Aguirre, who he allegedly shot and killed.

Aguirre was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

“He was looking for Crystal, which is my niece, and Crystal had left,” said the victim’s brother, Mike Aguirre.

“I guess my sister confronted him, and that’s how it all came about. He came back with a gun, I guess. She didn’t deserve something like this, for her to go out like this,” he added.

Authorities are now searching for Quezada. Lopez was also missing after the shooting, and police feared she could be in danger.

On Wednesday evening, Lopez posted on Facebook that she is “fine” and “running from that psycho,” family members told KTLA.

Police do not believe she was involved in the shooting. They are trying to get in contact with Lopez to protect her.

Police say Quezada should be considered armed and dangerous.

He may be driving a blue/gray 1982 Chevrolet pickup truck with California license plate number 2B29305.
