Would-Be Kidnapper Strikes Again in Rossmoor – Eric Spillman Reports
ROSSMOOR, Calif. (KTLA) — A man sought for allegedly tried to lure school girls into his van may have struck again, police say.
Two children were approached near Lee Elementary by a man who tried to lure them into his vehicle Wednesday.
He is believed to be the same man wanted in a similar child-annoyance incident near the same school on March 24.
In the latest incident, the man tried to lure a 7-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl who were on the school playground around 12:30 p.m.
The man parked his van near the playground just as school was getting out for the day.
Police say he offered the girl some candy and told the boy that he was going to kidnap him after school. Both kids ran away and told adults.
In last month’s incident, two girls, ages 8 and 9, were walking home on a Sunday morning after playing on the playground at the school, their mothers said.
That’s when a gray or silver minivan with a broken back window parked right in front of them.
“A man got out of the van and came to the back and waved to them and said, ‘Come here, come here,’” one of the mothers, Kim, said.
“They were both like, ‘We’re out of here,’ so they took off and they ran, and they didn’t talk to him,” she said.
“As the girls are running, they notice that the van makes a U-turn and continues to follow them,” the other mother, Cathy, recounted.
The girls say there was also a passenger in the van.
“As the van goes around the corner, they notice a boy sitting in the passenger seat who they both said looked like Justin Bieber,” Kim said.
The mothers say, fortunately, the guys didnt’ see their daughters and left.
When the girls felt that the coast was clear, they ran to one of their homes and related what had happened.
“They were both like, ‘I can’t believe this just happened!’” Kim recalled.
She said she asked the girls what the suspect looked like, and they said he was bald and wearing baggy clothes, and driving a silver van with no window.
Authorities are hoping someone will come forward with information about the men or the silver minivan.
“It’s terrifying,” Cathy said. “Nothing good can happen from an older gentleman getting out of a van and approaching two young girls.”
