A terrifying scene captured on a cell phone — this SUV erupting in flames — a man seated inside set on fire.
“When the suspect walked up to him through a flammable liquid and caught the victim on fire.”
This is what’s left of the victim’s burnt SUV — you can see another empty car also went up in flames just after 5:00 p.m. in front of this 7-eleven in the 51-hundred block of Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach.
The victim scrambled out of his burning car — as witnessed helped put out the flames.
The suspect ran and was captured minutes later a few blocks away.
“The suspect was found at a nearby location taken into custody a male adult and I will be able to get more information as the investigation continues.”
The big question why?
“There’s no information they had a relationship and no incident prior to this crime, so right now it looks like a random act.”
Witnesses were able to lead police to the suspect. People who live nearby who say this is good neighborhood. But this man who didn’t want show his face told us its common to see people hanging around this lot begging for money.
“I do think there is an element that spends time asking for money and I do think there is certainly there is an element that is unsavory at times.”
“We are still in the process of trying to locate more witnesses to see if they can give us those pieces of the puzzle that may try to put it together the victim is in the hospital in critical condition.”
