SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KTLA) — Local runners devastated by the tragedy in Boston are showing support the best way they know — by hitting the pavement.
Los Angeles-based running group the Los Angeles Speed Project (LASP) organized an impromptu “Run for Boston” Wednesday morning.
The event, publicized via Facebook, was scheduled to begin at about 6 a.m. at the Santa Monica Pier. They planned to run about 14 miles.
The group said that almost 100 people signed up to run in memory and support of the victims of the Boston bombings.
“Us as runners, we’re all a united community, no matter where you live,” said runner Jim Lubinski.
“We wanted to show our support for Boston and just show that nothing’s gonna keep us down,” he said. “We persevere and we support the people of Boston.”
