More Security Planned at Local Weekend Events – Doug Kolk Reports

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — The events in Boston have the entire country on edge, and here locally, police are ramping up security for a very busy weekend.

Some 175,000 people are expected to attend the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

While there is no credible threat involving the event, security will be beefed up.

Officials say some of the added measures will be visible — like K-9 units — and others will not. Spectators should allow extra time to get past security.

“If you see anything that concerns you — and we talk about this all the time with our residents — don’t think twice, call 911,” Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster emphasized.

Elsewhere, on Sunday, CicLAvia, which stretches from downtown L.A. to Venice, is expecting about 100,000 participants.

Also, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is being held on the campus of USC.
