NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KTLA) — One person has died and four others were injured after a fire broke out at a two-story apartment complex Monday.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at 5158 Riverton Avenue in the San Fernando Valley at around 10:15 a.m., according to a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.
55 firefighters doused the flames in about 30-minutes.
Two people were badly injured in the fire, including a man who later died.
Investigators say the man was found in a hallway with blood on his face.
First responders said the man appeared to have suffered some sort of trauma, possibly from a fight, before the fire started.
Assistant L.A. Fire Department Chief Trevor Richmond said officials are conducting an arson investigation, due in part to the significant injuries sustained in the blaze.
Three others were treated and released at the scene.
The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at the North Hollywood Recreation Center.
