MENIFEE, Calif. — A Southern California Edison worker was killed and three others injured Thursday during an accident in an underground vault.
It happened as work was being done near the intersection of Murrieta and Ridgemoor roads about 7:45 a.m.
The coroner identified the fatally injured worker as 38-year-old Jose Raul Ros of Winchester.
Edison officials say Ros was doing maintenance work in an underground vault, that powers a nearby desalination plant.
At some point there was an explosion.
Ros was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other workers were taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.
An investigation into the incident is underway, the company said.
