SAN FERNANDO, Calif. (KTLA) — An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed by police in San Fernando.
It happened around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday outside a liquor store in the 800 block of Truman Street.
Police were called to the scene because of an incident at a nearby McDonald’s restaurant.
“It appears that the individual that passed away was involved in an altercation with a customer at the McDonald’s,” said Sgt. Martin Rodriguez of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept.
When the responding officer arrived he found the man, said to be in his 50’s, outside a liquor store across the street.
The man was shot after a fight erupted between him and the officer.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
“It appears he may have been a transient,” Rodriquez said.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is assisting the San Fernando Police Department in determining what led up to the deadly use of force.
