Meet An Ageless Athlete Who’s Fit For Life — Lu Parker Reports

ageless-athlete“She would rather wear out than rust out,” says Susan Tobiessen, owner of Body Design about Bee Edwards, a client at her fitness center for the last 15 years.

On May 22, Bee is turning 100 and is a great example of being an ageless athlete.

Bee started working out 15 years ago, at the age of 85, at Body Design, a full-service athletic and wellness center located in Newport Beach, Calif., that is ironically located in the penthouse suite above Edwards Cinema, a company started by Bee and her husband in 1930.

In an effort to stop using a walker or a cane and to avoid moving to an assisted living facility, Bee’s daughter-in-law, Patti Edwards, suggested trying Pilates and Gyrotonic with the hope that it would help Bee walk without assistance.

Fast forward 15 years.

On the eve of her 100 birthday, Bee still drives herself to the gym three times a week to do Pilates, Gyrotonic and Cardio, in addition to riding the bike for 15-20 minutes each workout.

She no longer uses a cane or walker, giving her the freedom to do the things she still loves, painting and traveling.

Bee isn’t the only client at Body Design working out after 80, but she is the fitness center’s poster child for the benefits of working out.
