LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Tired of waiting in long airport security lines? The TSA is continuing to spread the word about its new pre-check service to expedite screening.
Officials will be answering questions on Monday morning at an information booth in Terminal 7 at LAX.
The pre-check program offers travelers faster security screening if they are pre-screened for security risks and cleared by the government.
Participants are allowed to keep their shoes, light sweaters and belts on during screening. They can also keep their lap-tops in carry-on bags.
Certain frequent fliers from several airlines, including Alaska, American, Delta, United and US Airways, are eligible.
So, too, are certain members of Customs and Border Protection’s Trusted Traveler programs, like Global Entry.
The TSA says the program allows officers to better focus their efforts on other passengers who are more likely to pose a risk.
The agency will continue to incorporate random security measures, however, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
The TSA plans to expand the pre-check program to include additional airlines, as well as airports that participate in a CBP Trusted Traveler program.
