Worker Trapped Underneath Slab of Granite Rescued

FONTANA, Calif. — A worker trapped beneath a 1,000 pound slab of granite was rescued by firefighters on Tuesday.

It happened at a contracting company in the 11600 block of Industry around 5 p.m.

Employees were in the process of loading granite slabs into a truck when a piece of the heavy rock slipped, trapping one of the men.

Crews from San Bernardino County Fire were able to cut an opening in the back of the truck and free the man.

The worker appeared to be alert and talking with rescuers.

He was airlifted to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
