This unique fundraising event brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities, stationary cycling, to the outdoors of Manhattan Beach. Participants can ride in place with an ocean view! All registrants for the Tour de Pier pledge to raise $500 either as an individual or in a team effort.
The Tour de Pier benefits four charities:
*Founded in 1997, the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing pancreatic cancer research, and providing information, resources and support to pancreatic cancer patients and their families. *Cancer Support Community – Redondo Beach has been serving cancer patients and their loved ones with a program of education, support and hope, at no cost whatsoever, to the participant for the past 26 years. Please note: All riders must be at least 4’11″ in height and ten years old. It is recommended that you bring a water bottle, snacks or energy bars for energy, a towel and cycling or tennis shoes. Since this event is outdoors, you should also bring a hate and sunscreen.
In addition to the cycling portion of the Tour de Pier, the event will include a health expo with a number of fitness and health-related sponsors and a Fun Zone for the kids with games, moon bounces and more. Participants can also join certified Lulelemon instructors as they guide you through a relaxing and invigorating stretch down session on the sand. Bring a towel and come on down any time during the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Stretch for a few minutes or a few hours!
The registration deadline for the Tour de Pier has been extended to Sunday, May 5th. To register, click HERE. A $125 non-refundable, non-transferable registration fee is required for an individual rider to participate in the Tour de Pier. If you choose to register and ride alone, you are responsible for raising $500. The full entry fee is due upon registration, and the fundraising commitment ($500 per bike) is due by May 5, 2013. If you wish to pay the entire $500 commitment up front, simply register for the $125 fee and make an additional donation of $375.
You may also choose to participate as a team. The maximum number of team members allowed is 4. A $125 non-refundable, non-transferable registration fee is required for each rider to participate in the Tour de Pier. Each bike team must raise a minimum of $500. If 4 team members register, the $500 fundraising commitment has been met.
If you register as part of a team, the team works together to raise a combined $500. Each rider will provide credit card information as a guarantee. Credit cards will be charged for any remaining fundraising commitment balance if unpaid by May 5, 2013.
Since this is a fundraiser, registrants are encouraged to exceed your fundraising minimum and earn incredible fundraising prizes! After registering, each individual receives a personal fundraising page which can be used to collect online donations. If you receive check donations, please have donors make checks payable to the Hirshberg Foundation and mail any checks to Tour de Pier, c/o Hirshberg Foundation, 2990 S Sepulveda Blvd, Suite 300C, Los Angeles, CA 90064. Be sure to clearly mark your name on the donation and include a donation form to assure accurate fundraising and donor credit.
Check-in begins in 7:30 a.m. The event starts at 8:45 a.m. There are many public parking lots in the Downtown Manhattan Beach area. The closest public lots are along Bayview Drive and 12th Street. Most parking spaces have two-hour metered parking from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week. Meter prices range from $0.50 an hour to $1.00 an hour. Be sure to read all posted signs and bring lots of change for the meters.
Leave your strollers and bikes in the complimentary Bike Valet adjacent to the Health Expo. Sponsored by volunteers of the Manhattan Beach Kiwanis Club, the Bike Valet is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All bikes/strollers MUST be claimed by 2:00 p.m.!!!
Enter to win one of four children’s bikes, courtesy Cynergy. Visit the Cynergy Booth in the Fun Zone and purchase your tickets. Prices are $2 for 1 ticket, $10 for 6 tickets, and $20 for 15 tickets. Winners will be drawn at 12:55 p.m. on the main stage. Winners do not have to be present to win.
You can also honor a loved one at the event through the Pinwheel Project. Please visit the Pinwheels Booth where you can decorate a pinwheel with your loved one’s name or a short special message. All pinwheels will be placed in the sand on event morning for all to enjoy and will be stored to use at future Tour de Pier events. Suggested donation is $5 per pinwheel, cash only.
