‘Clerical Error’ Results in Release of Murder Suspect

BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KTLA) — Sheriff’s deputies were asking for the public’s help Tuesday in locating a murder suspect who was mistakenly released from custody due to a clerical error.

johnny-mataJohnny Mata was set free April 4 from the Inmate Reception Center in downtown Los Angeles.

According to authorities, a murder charge was filed against Johnny Mata by the District Attorney, but the processing clerk had not yet entered it as a “hold.”

According to prosecutors, Mata was involved in a fatal gang shooting in the city of Baldwin Park in 2010.

The victim, David De Anda, was shot and killed while standing in a driveway on Christmas Eve.

mata-tattoosMata was described as a male Hispanic, 6 feet 1 inches tall, 197 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

Mata also has a number of highly recognizable tattoos on his chest and arms.
