‘Clerical Error’ Results in Release of Murder Suspect
BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KTLA) — Sheriff’s deputies were asking for the public’s help Tuesday in locating a murder suspect who was mistakenly released from custody due to a clerical error.
According to authorities, a murder charge was filed against Johnny Mata by the District Attorney, but the processing clerk had not yet entered it as a “hold.”
According to prosecutors, Mata was involved in a fatal gang shooting in the city of Baldwin Park in 2010.
The victim, David De Anda, was shot and killed while standing in a driveway on Christmas Eve.
Mata also has a number of highly recognizable tattoos on his chest and arms.
Anyone with information regarding the location of Johnny Mata was urged to call Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives at (323) 890-5500.
