Deputy-Involved Shooting in Cudahy Leaves One Man Dead

CUDAHY, Calif. (KTLA) — A deputy fatally shot a man who tried to grab his gun during a struggle on Saturday night in Cudahy, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The shooting happened at about 10 p.m. on Walnut Street near Otis Avenue, just south of East Los Angeles.

Initially, East L.A. deputies responded to a report of a fight and a man with a gun.

Deputies were also told that a vehicle had been seen leaving the location and the man may have been inside.

The man and the car were found a short time later.

When approached, he tried to take a deputy’s gun and was shot in the upper torso, the sheriff’s department said.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle. The female driver was taken in for questioning and released.
