Wildfire Near I-5 in Castaic Creates Massive Traffic Back-up

CASTAIC, Calif. (KTLA) — A fire in Castaic Monday scorched at least 50 acres of brush and shut down several lanes of traffic near Templin Highway.

The fire was reported around 4 p.m. along the shoulder of the 5 Freeway.

It began as a fire on a big-rig truck and quickly spread to surrounding brush.


A brush fire Monday snarled rush-hour traffic on the 5 Freeway near Castaic.

At one point it appeared that Paradise Ranch Mobile Home Park may be in the path of the flames, but fire officials later said the fire appeared to be moving away from populated areas.

No evacuations were ordered.

The blaze was 75 percent contained as of 10:30 p.m. with full containment expected by morning.

The fire was having a serious impact on rush hour traffic through the Castaic area.

At least three lanes traffic on the northbound 5 Freeway were closed for a time between Templin Highway and Vista Del Lago Road near Castaic Lake.

All but the right lane had reopened.
