Suspect Arrested in New Orleans Parade Shooting

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans police arrested a 19-year-old man Wednesday in connection with the shooting of 19 people on Mother’s Day.

Akein Scott was accused of opening fire on participants in a second-line parade.

New Orleans police were already familiar with Scott, who has a long criminal record including arrests for illegal possession of a stolen firearm, resisting an officer, contraband to jail, illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of heroin.

No further details on the case were being released.
