ETIWANDA, Calif. (KTLA) — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday after nearly two weeks of investigations into a sexting scandal involving two San Bernardino County schools, Rancho Cucamonga Detectives said.
The boy, a student at Etiwanda High School, allegedly posted nude photos on social media May 6 of four underage girls from nearby Rancho Cucamonga High School, according to detectives.
School Resource Officers at Etiwanda and Rancho Cucamonga High Schools received reports of the nude photos on May 8, and an investigation was launched.
A detective from the Rancho Cucamonga Station determined an Etiwanda High School boy’s social media account was used to send the images.
Fellow students said they believed the boy collected the nude photos from the girls’ ex-boyfriends, and then sent them out in order to gain popularity on Twitter.
“It was a trending topic on Twitter. People were just feeding into it,” one student said. “When you feed onto Twitter drama, it just gets out of control.”
The boy was booked into Juvenile Hall for a felony charge of Obscene Matter depicting a minor engaging in or simulating sexual conduct.
A 14-year-old girl was also issued a citation for a misdemeanor charge of Distribution of Obscene Matter.
Anyone with information was urged to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Detective Division.
