Wayward Bear Captured in Shadow Hills Area

SHADOW HILLS, Calif. (KTLA) — A wayward bear was captured after wandering through the Sun Valley and Shadow Hills areas on Wednesday morning.

The black bear, which had a tag on its right ear, was spotted shortly after 6 a.m. near Clybourne and Stonehurst avenues in Sun Valley.

The animal appeared to be a juvenile, according to Andrew Hughan, of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Sky5 was overhead as the bear scampered across streets and through backyards, scaling fences and climbing walls.

There was a tense moment when the animal ran through a corral, startling some horses.

The bear wandered north about a half mile into Shadow Hills, near the Hansen Dam Recreation Center.

Residents were told to stay inside their homes as patrol units from the LAPD’s Foothill Division monitored the situation.

A warden from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived and tranquilized the bear just before 7:45 a.m.

They loaded the bear into the back of a pickup truck to relocate it back into the forest.

The same bear was caught in Santa Clarita about two weeks ago, Fish and Wildlife officials said.

It was tagged and transported back into the Angeles National Forest, but the animal somehow made its way back down, officials said.
