Woman Born to Save Her Sister’s Life Graduates College

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — Marissa Ayala, a young woman who made national headlines before she was even born, graduated from Cal State Long Beach Wednesday.

In 1988 Marissa’s parents decided to have a baby in hopes their teenage daughter Anissa, fighting leukemia, could get a bone marrow transplant.

At the time Marissa’s  birth was a medical controversy.

The story captured national headlines, and even made the cover of Time Magazine.

Twenty three years later, big sister Anissa shared in the joy  knowing Marissa saved her life.
