Vietnam POWs Honored at Nixon Library

YORBA LINDA, Calif. (KTLA) – Nearly 200 Vietnam prisoners of war, and their families, gathered at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library Thursday for what was expected to be their largest reunion in years.

The POWs traveled to the event aboard a motorcade of buses from Newport Beach to the steps of the Nixon Library for a public ceremony held at 1p.m.

The event marked 40 years since President and Mrs. Nixon hosted these American heroes for the largest dinner event ever held at the White House on May 24, 1973.

Former Vietnam POW Paul Kari said it was raining cats and dogs that day, but he and his family were put up in the best hotel in town.

“We were really treated with honor and dignity,” Kari said.
