Big Crowds Expected for Disneyland ‘All-Nighter’
ANAHEIM, Calif. (KTLA) — The Happiest Place on Earth was scheduled to be open for 24 hours straight starting on Friday morning, and big crowds were expected.
Fans lined up Thursday night to get their tickets for the “Monstrous 24-Hour All-Nighter” in honor of the upcoming film “Monsters University.”
“You meet friends, you meet new people from all over the world and you get to create experiences you couldn’t ever do at any other place except Disney,” said Victor Serrano, who was first in line.
A similar event last year may have been amazing for the guests, but there were lots of issues, including the traffic on city streets and freeway backup.
This year, Disneyland officials said they were taking steps to avoid possible debacles.
“We worked really well with the city of Anaheim this year and traffic control to help mitigate all those problems,” said Suzi Brown, of Disneyland media relations.
Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure were scheduled to be open from 6 a.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Saturday.
Extra police officers will be on-hand, and park officials were encouraging annual passholders to carpool. Staffers were required to park in off-site areas.
“We’re fully staffed in our parking lots just to ensure that guests get in and to the park as quickly as possible,” Brown said.
The “All-Nighter” event will feature special entertainment and food, as well as special “Monsters” merchandise, according to Disney.
