Elderly Church Volunteer Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in Artesia
ARTESIA, Calif. (KTLA) – An 81-year-old woman on her way to help deliver food to the needy was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday morning in Artesia.
Carolina Estrella was in a crosswalk at the intersection of Norwalk Boulevard and Droxford Street around 4:45 a.m. when a red car hit her, then took off.
The mother-of-13 lived just yards from a neighborhood church, and was on her way to pick up and help distribute items from its food bank.
Each Saturday morning, Estrella made it a point to help out at the food bank, her distraught family said.
Her walker, a framed photo and flowers were left near where the accident took place.
Anyone with information was asked by police to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
