You can get a sneak peek this weekend at the “Collection of Elgin Baylor.” Hundreds of items from the beginning of Baylor’s career at Spingarn High School in Washington, D.C., to Baylor’s 1977 NBA Hall of Fame induction to his post-playing career as an NBA coach and NBA Executive, will be available at auction Friday, May 31st. Baylor was the first player who took the game off the floor with powerful, high-flying, acrobatic and ballet-like moves never before seen in the game.

Learn about the life of African American classical opera singer Hope Foye at the Mayme Clayton Library and Museum in Culver City. Foye’s budding career was derailed when she was subpoenaed to testify before a Congressional committee questioning the “communist affiliations” of entertainers. She was a member of People’s Artists during the 1940s, that included activists committed to social justice, including actor, Paul Robeson, folk singer, Pete Seeger, scholar, W.E.B. Du Bois, and his wife, playwright, Shirley Graham Du Bois.
