PALMDALE, Calif. (KTLA) — Neighbors of an 8-year-old boy who was allegedly tortured and killed by his mother’s boyfriend protested outside a Palmdale apartment building on Monday.
The child was vulnerable to abuse and unprotected by the system, according to the protesters.
Isauro Aguirre, 32, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of assault and was being held at the sheriff’s Lancaster Station in lieu of $1 million bail.
He was due in court in Lancaster on Tuesday, according to sheriff’s online jail records.
Authorities were called around 11 p.m. last Wednesday to the 200 block of East Avenue Q-10 on a report that a boy was not breathing.
When they arrived, they found the child had numerous injuries indicative of child abuse, Sgt. Brian Hudson of the sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau said.
They treated the boy at the scene and then took him to a local hospital, where he later died.
The boy’s mother, 29-year-old Pearl Fernandez, was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse after she admitted witnessing the assault and not doing anything to stop it, Hudson said.
