Service Members Honored at Memorial Day Celebration on USS Iowa

SAN PEDRO, Calif. (KTLA) – Hundreds of people were expected to gather on the Battleship USS Iowa Monday for a special Memorial Day ceremony honoring the men and women who have served our country.

Among those expected to attend were 600 World War II veterans, who have been touring the nation for an upcoming documentary.

The all-day event also included a series of activities for families such as carnival games, food concessions and live music.

The gathering was one of several Memorial Day observances taking place across Southern California.

Huntington Beach Memorial Day Ceremony
This annual Memorial Day Ceremony, hosted by the American Legion, VFW and the Jewish War Veterans, features a 21-gun salute, flag-raising and playing of taps. 11 a.m. Huntington Beach Pier Plaza, One Main St., Huntington Beach. Free.

Irvine Memorial Day Ceremony
The community is invited to honor our nation’s fallen and pay special homage to local service members, both at home and abroad. Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial Inc. will host an evening ceremony with candle lighting; bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. 10-11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Morning ceremony at Bill Barber Community Park, Harvard Ave and San Juan, Irvine. Laguna Hills Memorial Day Half-Marathon, 5K, 10K and Kids Run

La Palma Memorial Day Ceremony

Lake Forest Memorial Day Program
The Memorial Day address will be given by Richard Kelley, commander, VFW Post 6024. Mission Viejo Memorial Day Observance
