More Compton Parents Join Suit Alleging Racial Profiling
COMPTON, Calif. (KTLA) — Additional parties joined a federal lawsuit Tuesday filed by parents and students against the Compton Unified School District, alleging a pattern of abuse and racial profiling of Latinos by school police.
The complaint, which seeks $41 million in damages, also alleged that police used excessive force against students and parents who protested district policies.
In one incident cited in the lawsuit, school officers allegedly beat and pepper-sprayed a bystander who was taking video of an arrest on his iPod.
The suit was initially filed in May on behalf of three parents, one student and the witness who took the iPod video.
