DANA POINT, Calif. (KTLA) — Police on Thursday were looking for a woman charged with trying to burn down a Dana Point lingerie store, after she failed to show up for a court date.
An arrest warrant was issued on Friday for 42-year-old Jennifer Renee Colwell after she missed a court date, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Colwell has pleaded not guilty to felony arson.
She was arrested back in October for allegedly trying to burn down Intimate Obsession, a lingerie store located in the 34000 block of Pacific Coast Highway.
Colwell allegedly soaked some lingerie in gasoline, tossed it into a pillowcase and set it on fire, according to police.
An off-duty deputy who happened to be driving by saw what happened.
“The deputy noticed that the car was backing out of the parking lot at the same time he saw flames,” said Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion, of the O.C. Fire Authority.
“He stopped the car and at the same time called the fire department,” Concepcion said.
“To set a fire right next to a structure with the intent to burn, you know, we’re lucky that we caught it early,” he said.
Colwell blamed the incident on a bad break-up, saying the items were things her ex-boyfriend had given her that were purchased from the store, investigators said.
Colwell was also facing two other cases, one for alleged DUI and another for allegedly making harassing phone calls.
She has been a no-show in court for those cases as well, authorities said.
Anyone with information about Colwell’s whereabouts was asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, or O.C. Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS (847-6227).
