Southern California Fire Agencies Plan For Aggressive Season

DIAMOND BAR (KTLA) — Fire agencies from around Southern California met in Diamond Bar on Monday to prepare for what appears to be an aggressive fire season.

Officials are concerned because fire season began earlier than normal and because the region had one of the driest winters on record.

So far this year, Southern California has already seen the Springs fire in Ventura and the Powerhouse fire near the Angeles National Forest.

Los Angeles county and city fire departments plan to bring in super tankers from Canada by August 1, which is earlier than usual, L.A. City Fire Chief Mario Rueda said.

Mike Metro of L.A. city fire, gave three recommendations to residents for this fire season:

1. Be careful of taking part in any activities that might start a fire.

2. Maintain proper brush clearance around homes.

3. If a fire is threatening, evacuate from homes when asked.
