LA MESA, Calif. (KTLA) – An 82-year-old La Mesa man suspected of shooting his 73-year-old wife after she presented him with divorce papers was in custody Friday, police said.
Clyde Hayen allegedly shot his wife in the hand and abdomen at their home in the 7300 block of Princeton Avenue around 11:15 p.m Thursday, according to a KSWB report.
Hayen initially refused to let his wife leave the house when police arrived, but the 73-year-old exited the home after a brief standoff, according to police.
Hayen’s neighbors said he was a friendly man who just got out of surgery himself, KSWB reported.
Hayen’s wife was listed in stable condition at an area hospital.
Charges against Hayen were pending.
