The Lexus brand is synonymous with luxury cars, and with the 2014 IS sedan the company is ushering in an industry first in technology.

The redesigned IS sedan will be the first in its class to offer free traffic and weather information through radio signals.

On the outside, the IS has a racing inspired look–easy to spot out in parking lots–with an aggressive grille in the front for the F Sport trim. Inside, it offers standard HD radio, USB, Bluetooth, and satellite radio all for about $35,000. Also included is its newest feature: an all new multimedia system with a radio DVR.

“You can take that ten minute phone call, you go back, it’s still the bottom of the ninth, two outs, you get to hear the rest of the game and hopefully your team won that time,” said Bill Camp of Lexus.

In fact, the 2014 model now includes as standard $1,400 worth of previously optional equipment.

But in order to get the fun stuff, like a dashboard screen, you’ll have to add options that might take it up to upwards of $45,000.

Bottom line, the 2014 Lexus IS is fun to drive, but considering its “luxury” badge, we would’ve like to have seen more features added in the base package. Even the new Honda Accord comes with a standard rearview camera.

The Lexus IS will be available at dealerships in July.
