SANTA ANA, Calif. (KTLA) — A 7-year-old was recovering on Sunday in Santa Ana after being shot while sitting in a car with his father and uncle, authorities said.
The shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday in the 2600 block of South Towner Street.
The boy’s father was looking for a place to park, when he noticed a car following behind them, police said.
The car went around them, and someone inside opened fire on the group.
The boy, who was riding in the backseat, was shot in the leg.
He was taken to Communities Hospital in Santa Ana and was expected to survive. His father and uncle were not injured.
The motive for the shooting remained unclear, investigators said.
“There’s nothing to indicate that it’s gang related,” said Cmdr. Eric Paulson, of the Santa Ana Police Department. “The victims, clearly the 7-year-old, is not a documented gang member.”
