Gayle Anderson was live in Laguna Beach for the opening of the 47th annual season of the Sawdust Art Festival, which starts today, June 28th and is open daily through Sunday, September 1st from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
This year’s festival features 201 Laguna Beach artists working in all art mediums including ceramics, glass, woodwork, jewelry, sculpture, painting, photography, textiles, clothing, furniture, mixed media and much more. Of these, eighteen artists are new to the festival.
Visitors can experience live demonstrations of artists at work, including the large glass-blowing enclosure where glass masters perform their skill at the furnace. In addition, a variety of arts and crafts projects will be offered at the Children’s Art Booth and Studio One. For a new schedule of classes, visit the Sawdust Art Festival website. The year-round Sawdust Studio Art Classes will continue to be offered every Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Sawdust studio upstairs. Sawdust’s new auto sponsor is Subaru, offering an all new 2014 Subaru Forester in a raffle that benefits Sawdust’s art education programs. Festival guests can buy raffle tickets for $5 per ticket or 5 for $20. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn on Sunday, September 1st at 4 p.m. on the Main Entertainment Deck.
The annual Artists’ Benevolence Fund Auction, which supports Laguna Beach artists that have experienced a catastrophic event, will take place on Sunday, August 11th from 2-5 p.m. on the Main Entertainment Deck. All Laguna Beach artists, and not only Sawdust artists, benefit from the Artists’ Benevolence Fund.
This year’s scheduled entertainment includes Brother Yussef, Alturas, Amanda Castro Band and Moonshine. Additional scheduled special events include:
- Hawaiian Surf Day – Saturday, July 6th
- Green Day- Saturday, July 20th – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Country Western Day- Saturday, August 3rd
- Beatles Day- Saturday, August 17th
- Tropical Tuesdays- every Tuesday

Admission prices are $7.75 for adults; $6.25 for seniors (65+); $3.25 for children (ages 6-12) and FREE for children 5 and under. Summer season passes are available for $15 and an annual pass is $20. There is FREE City trolley service to and from the Act V parking lot.
The Sawdust Art Festival is a non-profit art organization dedicated to educating the public and promoting the art created in Laguna Beach.
