Villaraigosa Embarks on Farewell Bus Tour of L.A.
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa embarked on a farewell bus tour across the city on Friday as his time in office draws to a close.
Villaraigosa ends his eight-year tenure as mayor on Sunday. He will be succeeded by Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti.
Villaraigosa visited a union hall in Wilmington on Friday morning and then went to LAPD headquarters for a crime statistics news conference.
He was expected to make an appearance at the landmark Pink’s Hot Dogs in Hollywood at 2:30 p.m.
The final stop of the farewell tour was scheduled for 9:30 p.m. at the Sepulveda Recreation Center in Panorama City.
The park is one of 32 sites for the mayor’s Summer Night Lights program, an anti-gang initiative that provides organized activities for at-risk youth.
The inauguration for Mayor-elect Garcetti was scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday on the Spring Street steps outside City Hall.
There will be a free public party in downtown’s Grand Park as part of the festivities.
Jimmy Kimmel was scheduled to emcee the event, which will kick off with a performance from Moby.
