Cars Overheat As Accident Leaves One Dead On 14 Freeway

AGUA DULCE (KTLA) — Vehicles stalled and overheated in the extreme heat as traffic was backed up after two collisions on the 14 freeway on Saturday.

A man was working on his car on the northbound side of the freeway near Agua Dulce Canyon Road when he was fatally struck by a big rig around 11:28 a.m.

The driver of the truck did not stop after the collision, but may not have known he had struck someone.

The accident, as well as a second crash involving cars in the backup, shut down several lanes for hours.

Only one northbound lane remained open after the accident, authorities said. All lanes were reopened by 5 p.m.

As many as 30 vehicles overheated on the side of the freeway, California Highway Patrol said.

“I guess the car couldn’t take it,” driver Angel Gonzales said about his limo, which overheated on the 14.

Cars were seen exiting the freeway in the wrong direction as traffic was backed up.
