YUCAIPA (KTLA) — Deputies shot and killed a man in Yucaipa on Saturday after he appeared to reach for a weapon from his waistband.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church on Yucaipa Boulevard.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies were looking for a man connected to a domestic disturbance, authorities said.
They had received a call around 4:28 p.m. about a man and a woman having problems near a mobile home park, and the man then fled.
Deputies later saw his vehicle, stopped him and proceeded to take him into custody when he reached for a deputy’s gun, authorities said.
When he was unsuccessful, he began reaching for what deputies thought was a gun in his waistband.
Paramedics transported the unidentified man to the hospital, where he died.
Homicide detectives are conducting an investigation. It is unclear whether the deceased man had a gun.
