Woman Dies After Being Shot in Front of Her Daughter
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — A woman was shot and killed Tuesday night on a South Los Angeles street as her 2-year-old daughter looked on, authorities said. A man was wounded in the shooting and expected to survive.
The woman drove to the 10900 block of South Hobart Boulevard near 109th Place to meet a man, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide detectives. She was accompanied by her daughter and a female friend.
The victim was standing next to a Chrysler sedan about 11 p.m. when someone in another vehicle approached her and opened fire, police said. She died at the scene.
She was identified by friends as Yolanda Major, 27, of Hawthorne.
The man that she was meeting was injured and transported to a hospital.
Sheriff’s detectives said they did not know whether the shooting was gang-related. They said they had a description of the shooter’s vehicle but declined to publicize it.
Correction: An earlier version of this article reported the woman was identified by authorities. The victim was identified by friends, and not officials. The article has been updated to reflect the change.
