WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTLA) – A spectacular fireworks show lit up the sky behind the Washington Monument as the nation’s capital celebrated Independence Day.
The red, white and blue display exploded without a hitch over the National Mall at about 9:13 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday night.
Earlier in the day, members of the military and their families converged on the south lawn of the White House as President Obama continued the tradition of honoring the nation’s armed forces on July 4th.
“We are incredibly grateful for your service,” Mr. Obama told his guests.
The President also told the crowd he had an extra-special reason for celebrating July Fourth. It was his daughter Malia’s birthday.
