Woman Who Paid for Torrance Fireworks Display Asked to Cover Safety Costs
TORRANCE, Calif. (KTLA) – A woman who graciously stepped forward and privately funded 4th of July fireworks in the city of Torrance over the past 12 years, expressed outrage on Thursday night after she was asked to dig even deeper into her pockets.
Over the years, Jackie Briles spent more than $500,000 of her own money to pay for fireworks for the public to view at the beach near her home.
Briles said the city of Torrance has previously sent her letters thanking her for her support.
But this year she was stunned, when the city asked her to cover public safety costs for the event as well.
