HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KTLA) – Hundreds of Southern California homeowners who thought they were paying for a mortgage assistance program but instead became victim’s of a scam received their money back Thursday thanks to a national advocacy group.

The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) said a company called First One Lending was charging homeowners thousands of dollars for foreclosure prevention services they never received.

NACA, the nation’s largest non-profit HUD certified home ownership organization, then sued First One on behalf of the homeowners and won.

It’s a disgrace that companies like First One would engage in such deceitful practices that hurt innocent people, NACA’s Founder and CEO Bruce Marks said.

Homeowners who think they may have been scammed were asked to go to NACA.com or call 631-370-6222.
