60 Freeway ‘Summer Slam’ Gets Underway This Weekend

INDUSTRY, Calif. (KTLA) — The first of four weekend closures on the Pomona Freeway between Fullerton Road and Nogales Street got underway Friday night.

summer-slamThe so-called “Summer Slam,” was set to last 55-hours each weekend and affect lanes in both directions, Caltrans officials said.

Ramps, as well as the 57 Freeway connector to the 60 Freeway, were also expected to be affected.

The temporary closures were deemed necessary to perform pavement rehabilitation on the aging roadway, officials said.

Motorists should expect delays and were strongly advised to use alternate routes, avoid the area or use public transportation.

The schedule for the closures was released by Caltrans.

Friday, July 12, at 10 p.m. – Monday, July 15, at 5 a.m

Three lanes of westbound SR-60 closed
Northbound SR-57 to westbound SR-60 connector closed
Brea Canyon Road, Fairway Drive, Nogales Street and Fullerton Road on-ramps closed
Nogales Street and Fullerton Road off-ramps closed

Friday, July 26, at 10 p.m. – Monday, July 29, at 5 a.m.

Two lanes of westbound SR-60 closed
Northbound SR-57 to westbound SR-60 connector closed
Brea Canyon Road, Fairway Drive, Nogales Street and Fullerton Road on-ramps closed
Nogales Street and Fullerton Road off-ramps closed

Friday, August 9, at 10 p.m. – Monday, August 12, at 5 a.m.

Three lanes of eastbound SR-60 closed
Hacienda Boulevard, Azusa Avenue, Fullerton Road and south Nogales Street on-ramps closed
Fullerton Road and Nogales Street off-ramps closed

Friday, August 23, at 10 p.m. – Monday, August 26, at 5 a.m.

Two lanes of eastbound SR-60 closed
Hacienda Boulevard, Azusa Avenue, Fullerton Road and south Nogales Street on-ramps closed
Fullerton Road and Nogales Street off-ramps closed

In addition, during each of the four 55-hour weekend closures, a full freeway closure was set to go into effect in the same direction as that weekend’s lane closures from Saturday at 1 a.m. to Saturday at 5 a.m. and from Monday at 1 a.m. to Monday 5 a.m. for concrete barrier installation and removal, according to a Caltrans news release.
