VANCOUVER, B.C. (KTLA) — Cory Monteith, the beloved actor best known for his portrayal of Finn Hudson in the television series “Glee,” was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room, police said late Saturday. He was 31.
Police received a call from an ambulance service about noon Saturday “regarding a sudden death” at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, acting Vancouver police Chief Dough LePard said at a news conference late Saturday. Officers responded within minutes and were advised by paramedics that Monteith was dead.
“On behalf of the Vancouver Police, I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith,” LePard said. “As was the case in countless homes, I watched ‘Glee’ regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death.”
Mark Salling, one of Monteith’s “Glee” cast mates, tweeted out a single word after the actor’s death was announced: “no.”
Police ruled out foul play as a cause of death, though they could not immediately say how Monteith died. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
Monteith had entered rehab for substance abuse in April, his publicist said at the time.
Among many other appearances, Monteith was among the group of celebrities who joined Jimmy Fallon for the musical skit that opened the 2010 Emmy Awards.
