COMPTON, Calif. (KTLA) — An investigation was underway into a deadly deputy-involved shooting in Compton early Monday morning.
It happened at 12:26 a.m. in the 1300 block of Long Beach Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident began with a call from a passerby about a driver who may have been intoxicated, Lt. Eddie Hernandez said.
The vehicle was spotted and a traffic stop was conducted.
At some point, the driver became uncooperative and combative, according to Hernandez.
He allegedly tried to grab the deputy’s gun and bit the deputy in the left arm, Hernandez said.
That’s when a deputy-involved shooting occurred, he said.
The driver, described as a Hispanic man in his 40s, was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy was transported to a local hosptial with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and then released.
Anyone with information was asked to call the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
