WESTLAKE, Calif. (KTLA) — A woman was in police custody Friday morning following an hours-long SWAT standoff in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles.
She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital to be treated for injuries, police said.
The nature of her injuries was not immediately known.
The initial call came in just before 11 p.m. Thursday from the 1700 block of James M Wood Boulevard, according to the LAPD’s Rampart Station.
A man told police that he woke up in his apartment and found a woman he did not know. He called 911 when she refused to leave.
The man made it out of the apartment, but the woman remained barricaded inside.
She was armed with at least one gun, police said.
The woman began negotiating with police around 12:30 a.m., authorities said.
Several loud bangs were heard around 5:30 a.m. Moments later, officers began walking away from the apartment complex.
During the standoff, police evacuated the entire complex, which has about 60 units, according to residents.
Dozens of people were left sitting out on the street overnight waiting to be allowed to return to their homes.
James M Wood Boulevard was closed between S. Alvarado Street and S. Union Avenue.
