Woman Gets 6 Months for Setting Fire at Lingerie Store
DANA POINT, Calif. (KTLA) – A woman who tried to burn down a Dana Point lingerie store was sentenced to 180 days in jail and five years probation, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Jennifer Renee Colwell pleaded guilty Tuesday to the reckless causing of a fire to a structure, DA spokesperson Farrah Emami said.
The DA’s Office initially reported to KTLA that Colwell pleaded guilty to arson of a property, but that charge was dismissed.
Colwell was arrested back in October for trying to burn down Intimate Obsession, a lingerie store located in the 34000 block of Pacific Coast Highway.
She soaked some lingerie in gasoline, tossed it into a pillowcase and set it on fire, according to police.
An off-duty deputy who happened to be driving by saw what happened.
“The deputy noticed that the car was backing out of the parking lot at the same time he saw flames,” said Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion, of the O.C. Fire Authority.
“He stopped the car and at the same time called the fire department,” Concepcion said.
“To set a fire right next to a structure with the intent to burn, you know, we’re lucky that we caught it early,” he said.
Colwell blamed the incident on a bad break-up, saying the items were things her ex-boyfriend had given her that were purchased from the store, investigators said.
