SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTLA) — The mother of an 18-year-old boy who was killed in a car-to-car shooting last week spoke out about her son’s death on Wednesday.
Bijan Shoustari was wounded Aug. 2 while riding in a car with friends on Crenshaw Boulevard.
He died three days later.
“He wasn’t out there being crazy,” his sister Samantha Shoushtari said. “He was registered to start college in two weeks.”
From church elders, to his kindergarten teacher, to former teammates at Hamilton High; all painted a picture of a young man who had promise and deep ties to the community.
“He went to church every Sunday,” his mother Marsha Jones Shoushtari said. “He was good. He sang in the choir. He was an acolyte.”
Police say Bijan was riding in a car with two friends in Leimert Park when someone shot at the car, hitting him through an open window.
“The music was loud enough in the car… they did not realize they’d been shot at until they looked over at Bijan and noticed he had suffered some injuries, said LAPD Detective Sal LaBarbera.
Anyone with information was urged to call (213) 485-1383.
Correction: An earlier version of this article reported that Bijan Shoushtari was shot on June 2. The shooting actually took place on Aug. 2. The story has been updated to the reflect the change.
