SALT LAKE CITY (KTLA) — A habit of drinking three sodas a day could cut years off of your life, according to a new study from the University of Utah.
Researchers at the university said they gave mice a diet of 25 percent added sugar, the equivalent of three sodas a day.
The female mice died at double their normal rate, according to the study. Male mice were dramatically less likely to successfully reproduce or actively work to defend their territory.
Between 13 and 25 percent of Americans are getting the same percentage of calories from added sugar as the mice in the study, researchers said.
